As a tennis enthusiast, we know you recognize the benefits of tennis as a lifelong sport that supports physical health. Share your love for tennis and help us build strong spirits by supporting us with your time or treasure – or both!
For the past 25 years, the Birmingham Area Tennis Association (BATA) has worked to spread the joys of sport through tennis and education programs to area youth, especially those who may not otherwise be able to participate. Our programs, known as Learning Excellence through Tennis, are inspired by the legacy of Arthur Ashe, who believed that tennis should be used "to gain and hold the attention of young people so that we can teach them about matters more important than tennis."
Why is this important:
- Tennis is a sport that can be played for a lifetime and as obesity rates rise youth who participate in tennis are more likely to be involved in other sports and programs that support wellness.
- Youth who participate in tennis are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, regardless of their socio-economic status.
- Tennis can bring together youth from various locations thus enlarging their experience of the world.
